Best Practice Iris Profiles for BirdDog X Series Cameras

This article details the recommended video configuration profiles and settings for using a supported BirdDog X series camera with Iris. All bitrates are expressed in Mbps (Megabits per second).

Iris Video Profile Settings

Iris defines three standard video profiles. The bitrates below represent the maximum allowed for each profile.

Note: The Medium (3.5 Mbps) profile is used by default. The camera is limited to the High (4.5 Mbps) profile as the maximum configuration.


The BirdDog recommended setup focuses on maximizing performance and minimizing latency. These key settings can be configured in the AV Setup section of the cameras BirdUI:

RTSP Protocol Settings 

​RTSP is currently the supported format for video preview with Iris via the direct connection from the camera's BirdUI. Using other video protocols via the Secondary Encoder will result in a lack of video connection within Iris.
